4/5 Year Olds
Core Curriculum - 4 or 5 days 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
Students in this class go more in depth into the skills required for kindergarten. Recognition of upper and lower case letters, initial letter sounds, numbers, colors and shapes are emphasized throughout this play based curriculum. Each week a new and interesting theme is introduced which helps to integrate these cognitive skills.
Many independent activities such as blocks, fine motor manipulatives, science exploration, easel painting and reading and writing centers are among the choices available to the students each day. They also participate in one on one teacher guided activities where proper writing posture and grip are emphasized.
A classroom library allows students to check out a book to share at home and then return. Students also take part in a weekly music program along with the 3 year olds. They participate in outdoor play each day to allow for gross motor activities and an indoor area is available when there is inclement weather.
This core class meets Monday – Thursday and runs from September - June. The maximum class size is 16 students, with two teachers.
